BCBS settlement agreement update

MINNEAPOLIS, May 1, 2008—On April 21, 2008, a final order for the national case Love, et al. v. Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, et al. was filed by the federal court in Miami.

The order comes almost a year after 23 BCBS plans, (including the BCBS Minnesota plan) settled a class action lawsuit brought by 90,000 physicians against the BCBS Association and more than 30 affiliated plans and subsidiaries.

The settlements are designed to curb contentious business practices of the Blue Parties that have frustrated physicians and jeopardized the delivery of quality patient care.

Class members were mailed a notice explaining their rights under the settlement as well as a claim form and claim form instructions on how to fill out the form last summer.

A copy of the full settlement agreement can be viewed by clicking on this link.

Provisions of the settlement specific to Minnesota are listed here

Specific questions about the settlement agreement can be directed to the Blue Parties’ Settlement Administrator by calling (877) 893-2643, or by writing to Blue Parties’ settlement administrator, PO Box 4349, Portland, OR 97208-4349.
