In their ongoing efforts to collaborate more closely on advocacy efforts, representatives from the MMA and presidents of Minnesota-based specialty societies met again on Feb. 10 at the MMA office.
“This is a great example of how we can all be stronger when we work together,” said Cindy Firkins Smith, M.D., MMA president, who chaired the meeting. “While we may not have all of the same number one priorities, we must find ways to support each other where we can. We are all physicians first.”
The meeting included an update on what each group is focusing on during the upcoming legislative session and a discussion on how all of the groups can work together to achieve shared goals.
Specialty societies in attendance included: the Minnesota Psychiatric Society, the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians, the Minnesota Chapter-American Academy of Pediatrics, the Minnesota Chapter-American College of Physicians, the Minnesota Medical Directors Association, the Minnesota Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Minnesota Dermatological Society.
The group plans to meet three times a year - before the legislative session, following the session, and in conjunction with the MMA Annual Meeting. In addition there will be regularly scheduled conference calls during session to provide updates to the group.
