MMA Launches Live Stream Service to Better Engage Members

[MMA News Now, Aug. 21, 2014] Nearly 50 members in greater Minnesota were able to “attend” the MMA’s single payer forum on Aug. 19 thanks to live stream technology.

For a fee, members could watch the forum online either individually or as a group. Twenty five people watched the forum online at a gathering in Duluth, while 12 watched together in Detroit Lakes. Eleven individuals watched on their own.

Of note, Admiral Kenneth Iverson, a Minnesota native, attended the Duluth session and took part in a discussion on single payer following the forum. Iverson was in Duluth attending Navy Week when he heard of the event and wanted to interact with Duluth physicians. He shared with the group information and statistics about Navy/military health care.

“I’d say it was a great success,” said Cindy Firkins Smith, M.D., MMA president and emcee of the live forum that took place at the University of Minnesota Continuing Education and Conference Center in St. Paul. “It’s our goal to engage all Minnesota physicians at the MMA. So, to have that many docs watching online and submitting all of their questions and comments was awesome.”

The MMA plans to live stream its discussion on malpractice on Oct. 2 for those who are unable to attend in person.
