Stearns Benton Medical Society (SBMS) physicians and other volunteers coordinated two unused drug take-back events in the St. Cloud area during the last two weeks, resulting in the collection of more than 150 pounds of unused prescription meds.
The purpose of the take-back event was to give citizens a safe and easy way to dispose of unused medications, said Patrick Zook, M.D., SBMS president. “By getting rid of old meds, we’re getting them out of the hands of kids and people who may abuse them,” he said.
The drop-off events were sponsored by SBMS and the Central Minnesota Circle of Health. Based in the St. Cloud area, "Circle of Health" is a community health resource founded by SBMS that provides ad hoc service if needed for prompt community response to immediate health issues. It includes representatives from public health, area pharmacies, nursing, schools, as well as civic and business leaders.
