Leading the battle for breathable air

MMA Voices for Public Health is a statewide project to build support for public health issues at the

local levels.

Freedom to Breathe

The Freedom to Breathe Act guaranteeing a smoke-free workplace for every worker took effect October 1, 2007. The Minnesota Department of Health explains exactly how the new law works.

Congratulations on a job well done!

But we can’t let up now. Opponents of clean air, well-financed and still organized, may try to have the law thrown out in court, or overturn it next year.

Now is the time to stay engaged … to raise awareness … to calm the anxieties of those who worried clean air would hurt their businesses … and to continue to fight the everyday harm smoking does to our patients and communities.

Send us your smoke-free stories!

On October 1st, 2007, Minnesota went smoke free. But the fight's not over. Voices for Public Health wants your stories to combat the backlash against Freedom to Breathe.  MORE

Learn how to talk to reporters

Steve Kinsella, former communications director for Sen. Tom Daschle and former press secretary to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, will come to your clinic or hospital at no cost to provide small group training seminars that teach physicians his top 10 rules for working with the media, core messages about secondhand smoke, how to stay on message, etc.  MORE

The MMA thanks Gray Plant Mooty, LLP and our other association sponsors for their support.
