Helping physicians
understand the new coding system

ICD-10 is coming in October. Are you ready?

Minnesota physicians can learn the fundamentals of ICD-10 from two online, on-demand educational programs offered by MMA in partnership with Wisconsin Medical Society. The  programs, which were developed by the Wisconsin Medical Society, provide a  general overview for all physicians along with specific information about how  ICD-10 will affect 20 different specialties.  

These concise learning programs are packed with the crucial ICD-10 details including how the new system will affect medical documentation. The programs, which are designed for viewing at your convenience, include:

ICD-10: What Physicians Need to Know

  • Forty-minute introductory program to help physicians learn the fundamentals of ICD-10
  • Identify the most common misconceptions about ICD-10
  • Address key areas impacted by this new code-set
  • Fee:  $25 for MMA members (same as Wisconsin Medical Society members) $50 for nonmembers  
  • Physicians will be asked to create an account during registration process
  • This program is recommended as a pre-requisite for specialty activities

Specialty ICD-10 for Physicians

  • Learn details necessary for specialty diagnosis code assignment for 20 different specialties
  • Each specialty will have a corresponding 30-minute learning activity approved for CME
  • Learn the documentation details necessary to achieve precise diagnosis codes for each specialty and address key specialty-specific areas impacted by this new code-set
  • Fee:  $50 for MMA members (same as Wisconsin Medical Society members) $75 for nonmembers    
  • Physicians will be asked to create an account during registration process

Series objectives
Following this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe both the challenges and benefits associated with ICD-10
  • Identify gaps in medical record documentation in preparation for ICD-10 and tools/methods to improve documentation accuracy.

 

Refund policy
Registration is not refundable but may be transferred if registrant is unable to participate.

CME
This activity is designed for physicians and other health care professionals with the relevant specialty designation, as appropriate to each activity.

The Wisconsin Medical Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Wisconsin Medical Society designates this enduring material for a maximum of 10.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The ICD-10 learning activities were created by Jen Cohrs, the Wisconsin Medical Society’s director of educational strategies and an AHIMA-approved ICD-10 trainer.
