The MMA advocates for its members in Minnesota administrative agencies and courts to preserve a fair medical-legal environment where physicians can provide excellent care to their patients. This can involve attending meetings with administrative agencies that are looking to amend current Rules. It can involve participation in state-appointed workgroups that provide recommendations to the Commissioner of Health or other key administrators. The MMA advocates for its members in the court system by filing briefs as amicus curiae (”friend of the court”) when a case decision will have a great affect on physicians or health care in Minnesota.
The MMA monitors and comments on the work of the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. It provides contract reviews of provider service agreements between physicians and participating health insurance companies. It also publishes concise legal resources to aid physicians in understanding laws that affect their practice.
