Policy Committees of the Board of Trustees:
Policy committees serve as the subject matter venues/areas of expertise by which the MMA identifies, discusses, and develops recommended activities, products, or policy. Policy committees submit recommendations for action/policy to the MMA Board of Trustees, provide annual reports to the MMA House of Delegates, and serve as a forum for member involvement.
Note: Policy committees have a total of 18 members, including one member from the MMA Board of Trustees who serves as the committee liaison to the board, and one member each from the Medical Student Section and the Resident Fellow Section. A committee chair may be appointed to serve in addition to the eighteen members. Members are eligible for two, three-year terms. The MMA will seek committee membership balance with respect to age, geography, gender, specialty, race, and ethnic origin.
Operational committees serve to provide topic- or issue-specific guidance to MMA staff or management with respect to programmatic operations, such as CME. When applicable, operational committees submit recommendations for action/policy to the MMA Board of Trustees, may provide annual reports to the MMA House of Delegates, and rely on members with specific subject-matter or operational expertise.
Note: Operational committees are not subject to the same membership size, recruitment, and management policies as policy committees.
Board Governance Committees:
Governance committees serve unique roles with respect to MMA governance. Committee membership is generally proscribed by the MMA Bylaws or otherwise limited to members of MMA leadership.
Committees of the House of Delegates:
The committees of the House of Delegates serve specific roles with respect to the operations and functions of the MMA House of Delegates. The role of each committee is defined in the MMA Bylaws and membership is generally restricted to delegates and/or elected leadership.
