Each year, the Minnesota Medical Association honors physicians and medical students in the state who have made outstanding contributions to their profession, their practice, or the world around them.

Community Service Award

This award honors an MMA physician with an outstanding record of community service. Candidates may include physicians who help make free medical care available to the needy, serve as public officials, coach an athletic team, promote cultural or arts activities, or lead efforts to expand voluntary health programs. The award is not presented posthumously.

MMA Medical Student Award

Candidates must be current members of and participants in the MMA Medical Student Section, show a commitment to the profession’s ideals, demonstrate leadership skills, and initiate or participate in service activities for the profession or the broader community.

MMA Physician Leadership in Quality Award

This award recognizes a Minnesota physician who has shown a commitment to and demonstrated leadership in advancing quality and safety in health care. Candidates may be involved in quality-improvement activities such as incorporating evidence-based medicine into practice, adoption of electronic medical records, implementing patient safety activities, educating patients to improve health literacy, using data to improve practice, or participating in statewide initiatives to improve quality and safety.

Minority Affairs Meritorious Service Award

Candidates must provide outstanding medical service to minority populations by improving their access to care, eliminating racial barriers, and understanding the health concerns of minority patients within the context of their cultures.

Physician Communicator Award

Nominees must demonstrate exemplary skills in communicating with the public through published or broadcast work.
